Unlike other countries, The nightlife in the Maldives is modest and the lifestyle has a tranquil pace as there are no huge nightclubs. When visiting a country other than your own it’s really important to understand their customs, rules, and regulations.

The Maldives is not the best place in the world to experience a crazy nightlife, first because tourists are spread on hundreds of different islands and secondly all inhabitants are Muslims and that alcohol is prohibited in all local areas.

As a result, the Maldives has never been considered a party. The Maldives atmosphere is relaxed, quiet, and a popular choice for couples on honeymoon as all we know. Nightlife can barely be said to exist in the country however, with the exception of a few resorts that have clubs.

Can I drink alcohol in Maldives?
If you’re 18 and non-Muslim, you can buy and drink alcohol. Alcohol is effectively banned for the local population. But all resorts and liveaboard boats are licensed to serve alcohol.
Don’t try to sneak bargain booze into the country. The smuggling of alcohol into a country where it is prohibited because on arrival your luggage is X-rayed. Customs will politely confiscate bottles but return them, unopened, on departure or you may face a fine and may forfeit your holiday for the sake of a couple of slugs of alcohol.

Where to drink alcohol in Maldives?
The only place in the Maldives where alcohol is legal in resorts, there is no shortage of opportunities to drink at any time of day, with fine wines, cocktails, beers, and champagne all available, keep in mind.

Drinking alcohol in the Maldives is not cheap, considering almost all the bars and clubs are within luxury resorts. Although at significant cost but you can book an all-inclusive package is better for you.
However, there are some interesting things to do and you can still find a few bars and clubs within some of the resorts and hotels or when you hanging out in the local bars.

Drinking Alcohol In Male, Local Bars

There are about 130,000 live in the capital city of Malé. If you go out for an evening, keep in mind that Male does not have many options for partying or drinking alcohol. There are no bars or nightclubs in the capital city, only a few shisha cafés with live music some of them offer entertainment provided by the locals.

Foreigners living in Male whenever they need a drink, they will need to go to nearby islands where alcohol is allowed and the nearest one is Hulhule island.

There are ferries going there every 30 or 60 minutes and the return ticket costs less than US3$. Champs bar is a great place to unwind and have drinks with a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere.

The Floating Bar And Safari

Alcohol is prohibited on any local island. However, a safari boat is moored off the islands with a bar where you can stay with a can of beer, a glass of wine or a cocktail. It’s a small boat parked about 500 meters from the shores in Maafushi lagoon Male. It is located in South Male Atoll just 27 km away from Male. Since you arrive maafushi you will be taken to a safari boat, where you relax and after a few hours, you will be taken back.

Sip Bar at W Maldives Let loose at the 15 Below nightclub at this stylish and cool resort. The W Maldives targets a young clientele and features a nice beach bar, Sip, with a live DJ playing electronic music twice weekly.

Finolhu The most partying-focused resort in the Maldives is glitzy Finolhu.

Huvafen Fushi This fabulous resort often flies in DJs to keep its bar-lounge area busy after dark.

Bandos Island Resort Perhaps Maldives’ most social resort, Bandos has its own club and busy bars.

The Dhoni bar is one of the prominent meeting points on the island. A place where you can enjoy an all-inclusive bar any kind of cocktail, bears, and snack.

Keep in mind The Maldives is a conservative Islamic society and, with the exception of resorts, is officially “dry”.  Alcohol may not be available at guesthouses.
